I make a cup of tea
I feed the cat
Gather pills, count seven
Wash up whatever is there to be washed
Make porridge, hot water, occasional stirring
Think about yesterday
That film I bailed on, rare for me, normally go the distance, this was boring
Had an early night
Strangely out-of-sorts cat was happy
Think about today - there is a list, some tricky ones
Start up the small computer
There’s my name again, reminds me who I am
I’ll believe it if I can remember the password
Check news, then birthdays, then messages, then weather
Fetch the porridge plus today’s additions
Blueberries, pumpkin and sunflower seeds
Walnuts if I remember, topped with Kefir probiotic yoghurt
Or something healthy, affordable, on sale, still in date
Thinking about money, what it goes on, where it went
The cat likes chicken and fish
Duck, she walks away nose up
Turmeric pills my every day start, plus omega three
Telling myself how lucky I am to be able to afford it, this, anything
Hello predictable preoccupations, welcome to my existence
Casually calculate remaining time left to live
Scaled to be accurate, exact weight, height, circumference
Number of ailments assessed, logged, filed under bed
Remember my bag of brilliant ideas waiting in the hall, ten-a-penny
Wonderful, useless without time to spend and cash for the roses
Helpless in the face of news, things forgotten, recurring
Broken, needing to be fixed or chucked, or never there in the first place
Kept for sentimental reasons, my life, mum’s birthday, my loves
Meditate, which at least turns the noises down
This morning.
